A catamaran in Jerez? Yes, it is possible, due to the cities proximity to the sea, to get here by boat. Here is all the information you?ll need for the Vaporcito Del Puerto (Steam ship) and other boats and ferries.

You can easily get to Jerez by catamaran or ferry, as we are only a few kilometres away from the main ports. There are many companies offering sea links to other cities and also day trips so that you can get to know the surrounding areas while you are staying in Jerez.

For example, there is the traditional ferry from Tarifa to Tánger, the crossing is only 35 minutes long, but it transports you to another culture in a totally different continent. There are also ferries to Ceuta and even to the Canary Islands. There are companies that specialize in this type of trip; you can see them listed on the left side of this page.

Still with the more traditional trips we have the steam boat that leaves from El Puerto de Santa María. There was an accident and this boat sunk some years ago, but since then it has been recovered and is in the process of being refurbished and will soon be ready to set sail again. In the year 2000 it was declared to be of National Interest. The trip departs from the Port and arrives in Cadiz in about 45 minutes.

The latest news that we have on the steamer is that it is being totally repaired, from the engine, and electrical system to the hull and carpentry. The plan is for her to perform her maiden voyage in March, at the same time celebrating the Bicentenary of La Pepa (the nickname of the Spanish constitution).
For those looking for more practical crossings, the Consorcio de Transporte de la Bahia de Cádiz, offers crossings from Cádiz to El Puerto and Cádiz to Rota. The crossings are very regular and the price is really good (no more than 2 Euros per trip). The trip takes about half an hour, the catamaran is fairly modern and has been adapted for daily use, you can move around freely, both inside and on deck. It is a great means of transport for getting to work and for leisure activities too.

There are not many so called inland cities that have so many chances to enjoy the beaches, sea and sea travel. On top of this there are many other activities like whale watching, horse riding along the beach, water sports like windsurfing, sailing and much, much more. So here in Jerez we make the most of this blessing we have of being so near the sea, and make our escape from the city to the seaside whenever we want. Why not book your hotel or apartment in Jerez with costasur and see what we mean.

How to get to Jerez? The answer is easy, if you want to come by sea there are plenty of options, boats, ferries and catamarans, all ready and waiting to bring you to our lovely city.
