To speak of nature in Jerez de la Frontera is to speak of the Natural Park of the Alcornocales. This is what brings fresh air to the province of Cadiz, and is definately a natural jewel, next to Donana Park, the Sierra de la Nieves and the Natural Park of the Straits in southern Spain. In Jerez the Natural Park of the Alcornocales extends over an important surface area in the province of Cadiz and takes in other municipalities of the region of Andalusia, Spain such as Cortes de la Frontera, Ubrique, Tarifa, El Bosque, Los Barrios, Alcala de los Gazules, Algeciras, Arcos, Benalup-Casas Viejas, Medina Sidonea, Castellar de la Frontera, Jimena and Benaocaz amongst a few others. Municipalities that constitute almost half of a million inhabitants.
The Natural Park of the Alcornocales extends over 85-90% of the province of Cadiz, as well as a small part of Malaga.
There are many different aspects to the Natural Park of the Alcornocales with it's beautiful flora and fauna how it's name indictates plenty of Acorn trees. It is the biggest natural reserve in the country and one of themain ones in the world in this sense.
Besides acorn trees, and thick greenery, this park also has oak trees, moss and ferns, but it also has an important fauna with it's vultures, storks, deer, mountain lions and much much more!
The Aljibe peak measures more than 1000 meters above sea level as is the highest point in the park! |
